Wind mitigation inspection in Palm Beach County

One form, OIR-B1-1802, used by insurance companies across Florida

Its full name is the Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form. It records how a home is built to resist wind, and insurance companies use what it shows to decide which wind mitigation credits apply.

The form was revised in 2026. Inspections performed on or after April 1, 2026 go on the revised form, OIR-B1-1802 (Rev. 04/26), and that’s the one we complete.

The nine items on the form, and what we verify for each

  1. Building code. Which building code the home was built under, shown by the year built or the date of the permit application.
  2. Region. Set by the design wind speed for where the home sits.
  3. Roof slope. The slope of the main roof area.
  4. Roof covering. The type of covering, and the permit or installation date that shows which code it meets.
  5. Roof deck attachment. How the roof decking is fastened to the trusses or rafters. The weakest attachment present is the one recorded.
  6. Roof-to-wall attachment. How the roof is tied to the walls: toe nails, clips, single wraps or double wraps. The weakest connection present is the one recorded.
  7. Roof geometry. The shape of the roof, such as hip or gable.
  8. Sealed roof deck. Also called secondary water resistance. It keeps water out of the home if the roof covering is lost.
  9. Opening protection. Whether the windows, doors, garage doors and skylights are protected against wind-borne debris.

What we need when we come out

  • Access to the attic. Much of the form is answered there, at the roof deck and where the roof meets the walls.
  • Access to every window and door, including the garage door, and any shutters you have for them.
  • Permits and paperwork, if you have them, for the roof, windows, doors or shutters.

What you get, and what we can’t promise

You get the completed form, signed by the inspector with his license number, and the photographs the form requires. You send it to your insurance agent.

A completed form is generally good for up to five years, as long as no material changes have been made to the home.

We record what the home has. We can’t tell you what your premium will be, and no inspector can promise a credit. Pricing doesn’t change based on what the form shows.

If you were asked for a 4-point inspection as well, tell us when you call.
